When I saw this paper cone ball from Sometimes Twice, it instantly made me think of the crystal New Year's Eve ball in Times Square, although it's meant to be a flower ball. Maybe if you used a large styrofoam ball with glittered paper or vellum, it could make an awesome focal point above a New Year's Eve party table?!
