Special 1st Birthday Filled With Tradition

I loved reading this submission from photographers Pickerill Creative describing their client's event in California. This was a birthday party full of personality, color, fun, and most of all, tradition.

For a Korean family, turning one has special significance and comes with a huge celebration called the “Dol Party." Little Kyla’s party was no exception. The highlight of the Dol is the Fortune Telling Ritual where the child is placed in front of a table of foods and objects such as string, brushes, ink and money. The child is urged to pick up an object from the table. It is believed that the object selected will foretell the child’s future. For example, if the child picks up a brush or book, she is destined to be smart. If she picks up money she will be wealthy. Kyla chose the xylophone, which means she is destined to be an entertainer!

Just look at the amazing decor, as captured by Pickerill Creative.  The tunnel of streamers is fabulous! And the bean-decorated vases are a total DIY inspiration!   It was an incredibly special and memorable day for the family.
